No.1, Frederiksted, St. Croix 00840, 772-3115 Summary of how property taxes are assessed: Property taxes are 1.25% of the assessed value of the property. In recent years, the assessed value has been set at 60% of full value. The tax year runs from mid-January to mid-January of the next year. Tax bills for the previous year are mailed in May and are delinquent by August 30th. The interest charge is 1.5% each month until paid. If your bill doesn't arrive on time, check with the tax assessor's in the Lieutenant Governor's offices. Residents are entitled to a yearly homestead exemption of $187.50 or $15,000 of assessed valuation. Veterans are entitled to $250 or $20,000 of the assessed valuation. Those senior citizens whose total income is no more than $7,500 are eligible for a $250 exemption each year. |
